Good Morning Class 1, 

Here are your activities for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.  On Thursday the children will need to bring  four toys of differing sizes to the maths lesson.

Our topic is ‘around the world in half a term!’ This week we will be focusing on the rainforests in South America. Click on the links below to see what books we will be using.

Each day you will have a maths and a phonics activity to complete. These are listed below for you. During our morning google meet we will set additional activities. A brief overview of the session and activities set are also listed below.

Reception Phonics

This week we will be learning the ow sound. Click the link below to see what objects Geraldine the giraffe finds with the  ow  sound in.

 Wednesday- ow fishing game

Place a paper clip on the ow word flashcards. Use a magnet tied to a string  and fish out the words and read them. Alternatively, spread out the words on the floor and throw a small soft toy- whatever the toy lands on read the word.

Friday- Hopscotch game

Look at the ow PowerPoint and see if you can read the words.

Draw a hopscotch. Instead of numbers in the boxes write some ow words in chalk. If playing inside use the ow flashcards.

 

Nursery phonics

This week we are looking at rhymes and rhyming.  Over the next week complete the activities from the rhythm and rhyme home learning sheet.

Online teaching

Wednesday- 

9.45am Today we will build on our knowledge of describing words/ adjectives. Using the story Monkey Puzzle we will look at what describing words/ adjectives Monkey used to describe his mum.

Home challenge 1- Reception children using the worksheet we want you to draw a picture of your mum and write some sentences to describe her.

Nursery children we would like you to paint or draw a picture of your mum. Talk to an adult about your picture describing what your mum looks like, what her personality is like and what is your favourite thing about your mum.

 

12.30-1pm- French Online

Can you remember what the weather is like in the South American Rainforests? Yes very wet and rainy! Do you think we get a lot of rain? We are going to record the weather for a week. Download the weather chart from the resources and record the weather for the next week. 

You can also measure how much rain we get. If you would like to do this activity you will need an adult to help you make a rain measuring bottle (see instructions in the resources.) 

 

2.15pm Catch up & story time.

Thursday- Maths

9.45am We will be looking at the animals in the story and thinking of ways to measure them. We will work together to put our toys in size order and look at how we could measure these with non-standard units and rulers.

Home challenge 1- maths

Reception- Ask an adult or sibling if you can measure how tall they are. Ask them to lie on the floor and measure them using objects. What do you think would work? You could use shoes of the same size, lego, socks etc Whatever you use make sure they are all the same size. You could measure everyone if your family and record the results. Who is the tallest? Who is the shortest? Take some photographs of your amazing learning and email them to school.

Optional- complete the snake measuring worksheet.

Nursery- We would like you to collect some sticks from outside. Can you put them in order from the shortest to the longest? Can you find objects that are longer than the longest stick? Can you find objects that are shorter than the shortest sticks? Take some photographs of your amazing learning and email them to school.

Optional- complete the counting worksheet.

 

Home challenge 2- Art

 Can you create a Rainforest picture? You could collage a picture, paint or draw. We will look at some Rainforest images in our morning session for some inspiration. 

2.15pm Catch up & story time.

Friday- 

9.45am Today we will be doing an Indoor scavenger hunt focussing on colours. We will also learn the makaton signs for the different colours.

Home challenge 1- Reading

Reception- Read the comic ‘Rick the duck’ here is the link-

Use your phonics to help you decode the words. Answer the questions below;

What did Rick do?

Where did the muck go?

What was used to clean up the muck?

Alongside these activities you could also complete the following:

  • Daily reading (10 mins) or sharing some stories together.

  • Practising Phonics sounds (10 mins) adult to write a sound down, can you tell them the sound? Can you give them a word containing that sound?

  • Complete any of the maths booklets.

  • Joe Wicks PE is on Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays.

  • Complete some activities in the Monster Phonics Parent pack.

  • Practise letter and number formation.
