Summer Term 1 - Week 1

Welcome back! We hope that you have had a lovely, restful Easter Holiday. It was so nice to see the children come into school, on Monday morning, come into school with big smiles on their faces! Welcome also to Mrs Parkes, who has had a fabulous first week in Class 1.

We have had a great first week back. The children have thoroughly enjoyed the start of our new topic 'Superheroes'. This week we have looked  at some different superhero stories. The majority of the work the children have completed, this week, has been based around one of our favourite stories, 'Supertato'. This week the children have written and created character profiles, using fantastic describing words linked to the characters. They have looked at the different foods that we find in supermarkets and discussed where these foods come from. They have labelled a large map in the classroom with pictures of foods that come from different countries around the world. The children have designed superhero capes, made superhero masks and completed lots of superhero activities in the classroom.

In phonics, our Reception children have learned the sound 'air' and our Nursery children have been learning about the 's' sound. They have all done some super writing using their focus sounds.

In Maths this week Reception have looked at repeated patterns and started to learn about money. We have talked about the different values of coins and focused on counting out different amounts using 1p coins. Our Nursery children, this week, have looked at comparing 3 different lengths, using mathematical language, linked to measure.
