It has been wonderful to welcome back our Year 5 and 6 pupils. They have arrived with an outstanding attitude and have already demonstrated their new responsibility of being role models for the rest of the school with a flourish. I am extremely proud!

To begin this week, we set out our Class Charter that details how we can thrive this year. We also participated in some team building activities and designed some fantastic foldables all about our likes and interest which have found their way on display for many. Another highlight for many was the class voting for our school's councils where pupils argued their case with tremendous speaking and listening skills on show.

In Maths, we have been deepening our understanding of place value in numbers up to 1,000,000. Many managed to show their understanding through different representations such as place value charts with counters, written words and numerals. In English, we have been recapping our word classes and now have a comprehensive understanding of nouns (concrete, abstract, collective and proper), verbs, adjectives and adverbs (including adverbial phrases). This will help give a foundation for when we learn to use embedded clauses and prepositional phrases.

The class also impressed with their fitness activities and play leader skills during PE. In French, the children enjoyed their first lesson back and we recapped some conversational French together during some mini introduction role plays. We then started on our clothes topic where we started to identify the different clothes words and their appropriate déterminer depending on the gender.

Fantastique!

I hope you all have a lovely, restful weekend and remember to read when you can!
