What a whirlwind of learning we’ve had this week! Our young mathematicians have been mastering exchanging numbers, moving beyond simple addition and subtraction to tackle more complex challenges. In the world of literacy, we’ve stepped into the shoes of our favourite character from Katie in London. After a lively morning of role-play to re-tell the story, the children chanelled their inner travellers to write postcards home as Katie herself. This week our Year 2 explorers headed outside for a high-energy lesson on Predators, Prey, and Protection. It was a brilliant mix of science, teamwork, and active play that really brought our curriculum to life. Here is a look at what we got up to: We kicked things off with a name game. The children had to each name an animal for the rest of the group to decide if they were a predator, prey or if they could be both. We had everything from  prowling lions to basking sharks! The Great Triangle Tag - To understand how animals protect each other in the wild, we played a game called Triangle Tag. Working in groups of four, the children had to form a protective shield around a teammate to keep them safe from a "predator." This wasn't just about running around—it required massive amounts of communication, empathy and strategy. A great way to warm up on such a cold day. Nature’s Armour - After discussing which role they found the trickiest (prey, protector or predator) we began a discussion on how animals stay safe when they don't have a team. We talked about "Nature’s Armour," including: camouflage, physical protection (spikes, horns) and habits (darting into burrows, hiding in trees). Our physical adventures took us from the digital to the literal; in PE, we developed our rhythm with some robot dancing, while in gymnastics, we focused on core strength with three-point balances and front rolls. This technical movement carried over into Computing, where we programmed Bee-Bots to navigate through twists and turns. Finally, we’ve turned into mini-scientists! We’ve planted our beans and set up a fascinating investigation to see how cress grows in different environments. We can't wait to see which seeds sprout first!
