We’ve had a fantastic week in Class 4, packed with new learning and plenty of hands-on activities. On Monday, we began our new English text, Animalium, which has already sparked lots of curiosity about the animal world. In Maths, we continued working on volume, focusing on estimating accurately, and in science we started our new topic on electricity. The children built simple circuits, explored conductors and insulators, and even created their own foil switches - lots of great teamwork and problem-solving on show.

On Tuesday, we kicked off our new PE unit in tag rugby. The children learnt the basic rules of the game, how to hold and pass the ball correctly, and how to move safely into space. It was wonderful to see such enthusiasm and encouragement for one another as they developed their confidence. In RE, we explored the concept of salvation and discussed the significance of Jesus’s resurrection. The children worked collaboratively to write and perform their own short scripts based on different accounts, showing thoughtful reflection and creativity in their interpretations.

On Wednesday, we continued developing our understanding of volume in maths, building fluency and accuracy. In English, we explored active and passive voice, identifying the differences and experimenting with our own sentence writing. We also learnt our new spellings for the week and discussed strategies to help us remember them. In computing, the children were introduced to databases. They created their own records and practised organising information into groups, developing their understanding of how data can be sorted and searched effectively. In music, we completed our body percussion unit with a full run-through performance, combining rhythm, timing and teamwork brilliantly.

On Thursday, we researched different habitats in preparation for writing our own reports, linking closely to our work in Animalium. We also enjoyed whole-class reading, taking time to discuss vocabulary and key information from the text. Then, we analysed and practiced our skim reading with some quiz questions! In PE, we began our football unit, focusing on the ground pass and one-touch pass. The children worked hard on their control and accuracy, and we’re looking forward to building on this with dribbling skills next week.

On Friday, 12 students from our class proudly represented the school at a sports competition, demonstrating excellent teamwork and sportsmanship. The rest of the class enjoyed a French lesson, building confidence with speaking and listening skills. In maths, we took part in a fun scavenger hunt to practice long multiplication, helping animals “find” their correct habitats by solving calculations. In PSHE, we explored legislation and learnt about the ‘first past the post’ voting system, followed by our own class debate and vote. We ended the week with a well-earned movie afternoon to celebrate completing 15 class “shoot hoops” - a fantastic achievement that reflects the children’s positive behaviour and hard work. Well done, Class 4!
