Autumn 2 Week 1

We have had a fun and busy first week back. In Design and Technology our topic is all about pizzas. We have taste tested different types of bread and talked about what would make a good pizza base. Tasting different pizza toppings was also a highlight. Some of them we liked and some we really didn’t! Our English lessons are focussing upon the story of Pinocchio at the moment. We are focussing upon writing sentences with capital letters and full stops in Year 1 and using exciting vocabulary and conjunctions in Year 2. In Maths, Year 1 have been learning subtraction, using numbers under 10. Year 2 have been learning how to add using column addition. They have spent lots of time using the base ten equipment to work out the calculations practically before learning how to write them down using the more formal method. In phonics, Year 1 have been learning the ea and nk graphemes and have had a super attempt at reading and writing different words containing the different graphemes. Year 2 have been learning the long I sound spelt y at the end of words and the 'or' sound spelt as 'al'. We enjoyed our 'treasure hunt' to find some of the words we have been learning and created our own word art to help us remember our spellings. Great work everyone!
