This week we have read 'Little Red Riding Hood'. The nursery children prepared Little Red Riding Hood's basket, developing their descriptive language by describing the contents. Reception re-told the main events and made a story map.
On Tuesday we had a fantastic math day, focusing on the number five. Nursery continued to practise recognising numbers to 5, whilst reception compared numbers and made addition sentences, adding up to five. A few children went beyond five and looked at ways of making 6 and 7.
On Wednesday, the children practised putting words into sentences. Most of the children seem to be understanding what a sentence is and are becoming more confident at writing their sentence down. The nursery children used words to describe their stick character puppets and talked about how their characters felt at different stages of the story. They related this to their own feelings.
In RE, we learnt about the man who built his house on rocks and the man who built his house on sand. We learnt that Jesus taught us that if we put more effort into our work, we will be more successful!
In music this afternoon, we had a lot of fun and learnt some new songs. The children were confident and able to sing back to me on their own.
We have some lovely singing voices in Class 1!
Everyday we have practised counting up to 30. We have practised daily the days of the week and the months of the year.
We have focused on the word high frequency words.....'The' as well as 'made, day, a, and came.'
We have started learning to use the sign language 'Makaton' The children are doing really well. We are able to say 'Hello, how are you?' and answer with signs for feelings.
Have a lovely weekend and enjoy the start of lighter nights.
