The week began with a blast as Class went to York to find out more information on the vikings. Our overnight stay was packed with thrilling activities such as: visiting the Jovik centre and experiencing a ride through a model viking village; becoming archeologists by digging for buried historical artefacts; designing and making our own viking shields; taking part in team building games; building a viking longship, and assembling our very own mini catapults.
In RE, we researched all about Good Friday. Then, we worked in groups to brainstorm/mind-map everything we learned. This included that Good Friday, the Friday before Easter, is the Christian day to commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus and His death at Calvary. Paul considered it “of first importance” that Jesus died for our sins, was buried, and was raised to life on the third day, following what God had promised in the Scriptures (1 Corinthians 15:3).
Thursday involved making great strides towards completing our GreenPower project as we finished the design of our cars' panels and attached the steering mechanisms and wheels. The Year 6's also created steering wheel designs using CAD online software for designing 3D models.
In Art, we worked in groups to create stencils based on our chosen ‘current world issue’. Groups chose topics such as Climate Change, deforestation and wars. Each group used symbolism to reflect their feelings on these topics by selecting colours with symbolic meanings. Once the design was complete, each group cut out their stencil ready for tagging objects. Onto a large rectangle of cardboard we spray painted all our designs with great success.
