The second week of our Summer term was an absolute blast. We have continued (and finished) our learning on percentages with plenty of opportunity to consolidate our understanding. In English, we have been testing our figurative language through creating setting descriptions based on the heathlands in Macbeth. During our whole class reading lessons, we have been practising and refining our PEPE structure when answering 3 mark SATs questions relating to the personality/character of those in various texts.

On Thursday, Class 4 learnt that VE day stands for Victory in Europe day! The reason why today is so special is because it signified the end of the Second World War. Furthermore, we also learnt about the street parties they had (to celebrate peace in Europe) and decided to create our own version. We made cookies, jammy dodgers, sandwiches, cakes, flowers and essential picnic items. To add decoration, we made VE Day inspired bunting, plates, cups and table cloths. We thoroughly enjoyed the process of making them and are very grateful for all the cardboard and yogurt pots that people donated. During lunchtime, we were lucky enough to see the airplanes from the National Memorial Arboretum soar over the school. After school, to show our class teamwork and celebrate our designs, we invited the parents to join our faux street party on the front playground and take pictures.
