The children absolutely loved getting hands-on with our collage projects. We started by diving into the fascinating world of underwater senses. Imagine vibrant fish, swaying seaweed, and all sorts of textures representing how different creatures might experience life beneath the waves. The children used various materials to bring their underwater worlds to life, thinking about what they might see, hear, or feel if they were a fish! Then, it was time for some self-expression as they crafted collages of their own faces. This was a wonderful opportunity for them to look closely at their features and represent themselves creatively. Finally, they celebrated their passions by making collages of their favourite things. From superheroes to pets, these collages were a colourful reflection of each child's unique interests and personalities. Friday morning brought a buzz of excitement as we transformed into junior scientists! The children were introduced to the microscopes, learning how to safely and effectively use these amazing tools. Their eyes widened with wonder as they discovered a whole new world of detail. We carefully examined grains of sand, revealing intricate patterns invisible to the naked eye. Coins took on a new dimension, showcasing the tiny engravings and textures. And yes, even a deceased wasp became an object of fascination, allowing us to observe its delicate wings and segmented body up close. It was a truly captivating experience that sparked many questions and much curiosity. Our English lessons culminated in an impressive display of writing this week. The children put their research and organisational skills to the test as they completed their "big write" – a non-chronological report on lions. They've been learning all about these magnificent creatures, gathering facts about their habitats, diets, and behaviours. It was wonderful to see their hard work come together in informative and engaging reports, showcasing their understanding of how to structure factual writing. In Design & Technology, we've started thinking about something delicious: picnics. This week, we began exploring what kind of food would be perfect for a picnic. The children brainstormed healthy and tasty options, considering things like portability and what would stay fresh. We're looking forward to seeing their creative picnic menus unfold in the coming weeks! It's been a truly enriching week of learning and discovery for our Year 1 and 2 pupils. We're incredibly proud of their enthusiasm, creativity, and hard work across all subjects.
