What a Wonderful Week in Class 2!

It's been another fantastic week in Class 2, and we have so much to celebrate! The children have been working incredibly hard, and we're so proud of all their efforts. In Maths, we've been continuing our work with numbers up to 20. The children have been looking at one more and one less than a given number and have been getting to grips with placing numbers on a number line. This is a crucial skill that helps them understand the order and sequence of numbers. Our English lessons have been all about the wonderful story Dear Zoo by Rod Campbell. We've had a go at writing our own sentences about the animals from the book. The children have been concentrating so hard on using capital letters, finger spaces, and full stops. We've also been checking our work to make sure our sentences make sense, which is a big step towards becoming confident writers. This week, we had our very first Geography lesson of the new school year! We explored the concepts of a planet, a continent, and a country. The children's curiosity was wonderful to see as they began to understand the different places that make up our world. Our Phonics lessons have also started up again. Year 1 have been busy learning words with the phonemes ff, ll, ss, zz, and nk, while Year 2 have been learning about the phoneme dge. These daily lessons are so important for helping the children to become confident readers and writers. Year 1 had a wonderful time during their outdoor learning session this week! We fully embraced the true spirit of outdoor learning, and despite a lot of rain, our young explorers were completely undeterred. A huge thank you to everyone who made sure the children were dressed for the weather; it meant we could brave the elements, feel the rain on our faces, and enjoy all the fun the forest had to offer. This week's session was all about becoming "Leaf Detectives"! We embarked on a mission to investigate the different trees in our outdoor area. Using magnifying glasses, the children worked in pairs to carefully observe the details of various leaves. They examined their shape, texture, and unique features to help them identify and match them to our tree identification worksheets. It was amazing to see how focused and engaged the children were. They showed excellent teamwork, working together to compare notes and solve the mystery of each leaf. Their curiosity was infectious, and they followed our rules and instructions brilliantly, making the session safe and fun for everyone. It just goes to show that a little bit of rain can't stop us from having a great time learning outdoors! Another busy week in class 2. We are ready for a rest over the weekend now!!
