The second week of our Autumn term has been wonderful: full of learning!
In Mathematics, we have been continuing with our place value topic, looking at numbers up to 10 million. We have explored concepts such as powers of 10, number lines, gattegno charts and bar models. Many who whizzed through the worksheets managed to deepen their understanding through extension worksheets.
In English, we have begun our narrative unit based on the origin stories written by Ted Hughes (also known for The Iron Man) named How the Whale Became. Through reading the short stories we have identified similarities and differences within and across different texts. Additionally, we have examined noun phrases and revised part of the original text to be more descriptive.
To begin our science unit on evolution and inheritance, we enjoyed learning about fossils. Discovering how they are made and creating our own 'fossils' out of saltdough. It was mesmirizing to know that there were fossils in this very classroom that are millions of years old. In French, we looked at transport and benefitted from the fortunate amount of cognates/near-cognates. In PE, we began our leadership unit and acted as coaches for various mini games. As part of our orienteering unit in Geography, we looked at the compass and explored how grid references can be used to locate symbols on the map.
I hope everyone has a great weekend and look forward to seeing you all on Monday!
