This week in a Monster Phonics reception have been learning the short oo sound, such as in the words look and book. They have used sand, pipe cleaners and stars to form words containing this sound.
In maths reception have been throwing dice and counting along a number line to 20. We will continue to practise moving the correct number of spaces. Please enjoy dice games with your children such as snakes and ladders. This will really help the children with their number recognition as well as teaching them to take turns.
Preschool have been singing and dancing to nursery rhymes. They are getting really good at forming the phonemes s,a,t,p,i and n. They have enjoyed using the sand trays, pipe cleaners and magic sand to form these letters. We will endeavour to keep playing rhyming games, although the children are getting much better at rhyming CVC words.
In number, preschool have been exploring circles, squares and triangles.
The children continue to really enjoy learning about Australia. They have been making aboriginal dot patterns, learning about the didgeridoo and have been making crocodiles.
Outside, the children have been playing with the small world Australian animals around our model of Uluru.
I read the story about Kevin the koala. We learnt about how Kevin came down from his tree and discovered that by being brave he learnt new things and found out that he actually enjoyed doing them. We discussed times when we have been brave and discovered new things.
In RE, we have listened to stories about some of the miracles Jesus performed.
We will continue to discover more about Australia next week!
I hope you have a lovely weekend.
