We kicked off the week with a real treat on Monday afternoon. Class 2 was very excited to be invited to watch the dress rehearsal of Class 3’s play! We were completely blown away by the fantastic singing and acting on display. It was wonderful to see the older children perform, and it certainly inspired plenty of our own budding actors in Class 2! Wednesday was quite possibly the highlight of our entire week! We joined forces with the wonderful children from The Howard for a fully immersive Great Fire of London Day. The children rolled up their sleeves and built their very own 17th-century houses. We got creative and produced our own artistic interpretations of what the glowing London skyline might have looked like during the blaze. To top it all off, a visiting theatre company entertained us for the whole afternoon. The children were utterly captivated, and we all absolutely loved it! Thursday was a wonderfully full day for us! We started by enjoying a lovely walk down to the church to take part in the end-of-term Easter service. The children were incredibly respectful, and I was so proud of them when they stood up beautifully to read out our class acrostic poem. They spoke with such clear, confident voices! Later in the day, Year 2 had a fantastic outdoor learning session to wrap up our current outdoor block: We started off by playing a thrilling game of ‘Foxes and Mice’. The 'Mouse' hid silently in their burrow, while our 'Foxes' had to use ultimate stealth and camouflage to hunt them down. If the mouse heard a twig snap, they pointed, and the Fox had to retreat! It was a brilliant lesson in balance and quiet movement. Armed with checklists and magnifying glasses, we scoured the area for signs of real wildlife. We discovered nibbled pinecones, broken acorns (maybe a leftover snack!), and small holes along the boundary fences that could easily have been tiny secret tunnels. To end our afternoon, we relaxed with some well-deserved hot chocolate. While we sipped, we used our fantastic metacognitive skills to reflect on our learning over the past few weeks, discussing what we enjoyed most and how we solved problems together as a team. Finally, we rounded off the term today with a brilliant non-uniform day. Thank you so much for all of your generous chocolate donations; the children looked fantastic in their own clothes and there was a wonderful, festive buzz in the classroom.
What a week to finish on! The children have worked so hard this term and absolutely deserve a well-earned rest.
Have a cracking Easter holiday, everyone. Eat lots of chocolate, enjoy the spring sunshine, and we look forward to welcoming the children back for the summer term!
