What an incredibly hot week it has been, but despite the sizzling temperatures, the children have absolutely worked their socks off and packed in a fantastic week of learning! In Maths, they turned into "Angle Detectives" to hunt for right angles around the room before mastering equilateral, isosceles, and scalene triangles—even tackling the tricky challenge of drawing their own equilateral triangles with perfectly equal angles. Keeping cool was the focus in reading, where the class completed comprehension quizzes on informative texts about sun safety. Our Science lesson took us outdoors to explore the lifecycle of a flower and the vital role insects play in pollination, which inspired the children to build their own bee baths to keep our local pollinators hydrated in the heatwave. We also stepped back in time during History to study Stone Age homes like Skara Brae; the children even used natural materials in the outdoor learning area to recreate the World Heritage site, deeply reflecting on how difficult building must have been without modern tools, metal, or plastic. Finally, to wrap up a brilliant week, everyone found a cool spot in the shade to create stunning watercolour paintings, beautifully putting their new knowledge of gradients into practice to blend their backgrounds from dark to light.
