Last week we continued to learn about our families. We looked at houses in England and around the world. The reception children enjoyed walking around the village looking at buildings and different homes. In the afternoon, the children listened to the story about the 3 Little Pigs. They had a go at building houses out of clay, straw and sticks. We used a hair dryer as the big bad wolf to try and blow the houses down. We talked about different building materials used around the world.
In maths, the children explored patterns in the environment and made rubbings of natural materials. The children explored AB patterns using a variety of different objects.
This week the children have enjoyed learning about their bodies. We looked at a skeleton model, listened to the story Funny Bones and learnt how to look after our teeth! We discovered our 5 senses and enjoyed smelling herbs, tasting different foods, and we enjoyed taking our socks and shoes off to do a bare foot walk. The children enjoyed seeing what colours they could make by mixing the primary colours.
In maths this week, the children have expored long and short, tall and small. They enjoyed a number of different activities comparing length.
In Monster phonics, preschool have really enjoyed playing and listening to percussion instruments. We grouped some instruments into different sets depending on material or the sounds that they make. We listened to Vivaldi’s autumn.
Reception have learnt the phonemes, o,c,k, ck, e, u and r. The children are beginning to blend CVC words.
Today is Super Hero Day and we’re having a great day! The children have made Supertato, super hero masks and enjoyed role playing hero’s outside!
