What an incredible last week of term Class 3 has had! We have officially finished off our Ancient Egypt topic with a bang, alongside working hard through assessment week. On the computers, the children have been publishing their fantastic newspaper reports covering Howard Carter’s dramatic discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb. To cap off our learning, we held a brilliant Ancient Egyptian Day packed full of exciting hands-on activities. We started the morning decoding a secret message written in hieroglyphics before diving into Ancient Egyptian beliefs about the afterlife, where we even mummified a tomato! Later, we explored how Egypt changed from the Old Kingdom to the New Kingdom and wrote our own hieroglyphic blessings on cartouches. We also learned all about Egyptian collars—how they were designed and how modern historians know so much about them—before designing our own using detailed symmetrical patterns. What a wonderful, creative way to end the term!
