Class 2 have had a very busy week this week ! On Monday we had a particularly busy day. In the morning, we learnt about the history and meaning behind Remembrance Day. We found out why we wear poppies and the importance of Remembrance Day. To show our gratitude, we wrote a post card to the fallen soldiers telling them about how we commemorate their sacrifice today. Then at the 11th hour, we stood in silence at the war memorial in Kings Bromley for 2 minutes to show our respect to those soldiers. After, we listened to a poem and sang a hymn called ‘Make Me A Channel Of Your Peace’. In the afternoon we made our own poppies out of red, green and black card. First, we traced our hand and cut it out. Then, we traced a poppy template and cut it out too. Finally, we put them together with a split pin. In RE we were focusing on the celebration of Diwali. First we read the legend behind Diwali to understand why some people choose to celebrate it today. Then in the spirit of Diwali we made our own Diva lamps out of salt dough, we used our hands to help shape the dough to create patterns from indentations in the dough. These Diva lamps symbolise the triumph of light over dark and good over evil. Practice for the Christmas play has also begun and the stage is up! It's been wonderful to see so many children learning their lines for their roles. We've also been busy rehearsing the songs and solos with Class 1!
