This week has been encapsulated in memorable adventures!

We commenced the week by venturing off to Standon Bowers, where we lodged in a historical, enormous building for the night. With buckets of enthusiasm, we attempted a variety of activities, which supported us in developing fundamental skills such as resilience, teamwork and patience. These activities included: bouldering, orienteering, blind folded trail and shelter building. As well as enjoying these marvellous activities, we had the opportunity to mingle and liaise with other children and staff in the Staffordshire Schools MAT. Overall, it was a spectacular experience!

In Mathematics, we continued our addition and subtraction unit- we have been subtracting four digit numbers using formal written methods. As a creative twist, we took on the role of teachers and set our partners a range of calculations and problem solving questions. In English, we have written recounts about our residential trip. After looking at the gallery, we used the vocabulary first, next, then to reflect on our favourite moments and new skills that we attempted. Then, we presented our recounts to our partners and offered one star and a wish so that everyone received constructive feedback.

At the end of the week, Year 4 had their first outdoor learning session and Year 3s had their first art lesson, which resulted in some impressive charcoal creations!

A review from Miss Partington regarding this week’s outdoor learning session:

‘We had a fantastic afternoon today as Year 4 kicked off their block of outdoor learning with our first session: "Discovering Our Woodland Community!" The children were brilliant, showing great enthusiasm and a real sense of adventure. Our session began with a "Safety Circle" where the children did a fantastic job of co-constructing our essential rules. Next, the children transformed into Wildlife Detectives. Working in small groups, they used their sharp eyes and ear to look for signs of life- our focus wasn't just on what’s pretty, but what’s potentially harmful. The most tactile part of the session was sensory exploration. In pairs, the children spent time getting to know the trees around us using all their senses. They ran their hands over rough, cracked bark, smelled damp moss, and listened to the rustle of leaves in the wind. We ended our session back in a base camp, using the talking stick to share our discoveries. We can't wait for our next adventure outside! ‘

Enjoy a wonderful weekend!
