It has been an incredibly busy week in Class 2! From mastering tricky numbers to exploring the bustling streets of the capital, the children have approached every lesson with enthusiasm and determination. Here is a look at what we have been up to. We reached a fantastic milestone in Maths this week. The children have been working hard on addition and subtraction of two-digit numbers. We didn't just stop at the simple sums; we challenged ourselves by calculating "across a ten." This required the children to use their exchanging skills—swapping ten ones for a ten rod, or vice versa. It was wonderful to see so many "lightbulb moments" as they grasped this complex concept!
Parent Tip: Ask your child to show you how they "exchange" when subtracting a number like 42 - 15. You might be surprised by how confident they are!
Our English lessons have been truly inspired by our focus text, Katie in London. The children loved following Katie’s adventures across the city. They have been busy planning their own exciting postcards, using high-level grammar skills including:
- Expanded noun phrases to add detail.
- Suffixes to change the meaning of words.
- Adjectives to make their writing pop.
This journey naturally flowed into our Geography lessons. We identified famous London landmarks, discussed their unique features, and practiced our map skills. The class did a brilliant job calculating the distances between different locations—proving that Maths skills are useful everywhere, even in Geography! The learning didn't stop there. We have had a packed schedule across the wider curriculum:
- ICT: We put our problem-solving hats on to become computer programmers. The children learned how to give precise instructions to program robots, commanding them to move forwards and backwards.
- PE: We focused on physical control. In gymnastics, the children demonstrated impressive stability with three-point balances, and in dance, they collaborated to create creative group routines.
- RE: We spent some quiet time reflecting on the story of Matthew 9:9-13. The children created thoughtful posters exploring Jesus’ message of forgiveness and the "good news" he brought to Matthew.
It truly has been a brilliant week of learning and discovery across every subject. We hope you all have a restful weekend!
