It is hard to believe we are already 3 weeks into the spring term. This week has been packed full of exciting lessons and year 5 have enjoyed their very own Bikeability days with excellent instructors.

In Maths, we have been focusing on the decimals topic by ordering, comparing and rounding decimals to various decimal places. With great succes, we have been continuing our exploration of The Explorer in English. The week began by consolidating our learning of writing effective dialogue by redrafting a piece of dialogue from the start of our unit but, this time, including the full range of skills that we have been developing such as: action beats, said synonyms, dashes/elipses, subtext and unspoken words. We also developed our plans for our independent writing to follow next week.

In PE, we have moved further on in our dance and gymnastics units. In gymnastics, we developed our understanding and execution of jumps from pieces of equipment. Some impressed by their flawless showing of the tuck jump.

In Computing, we had great fun exploring some of the basic uses of Microbits. Through discovery-led learning and problem solving we used simple selection programming to make our devices do certain tasks when recieving varied inputs.

Topic for Talk - to support our focus on oracy, below is a question linked to our learning this week to discuss with your child.

How could you explain to a younger pupil what the steps are to round decimals to whole numbers? Can you think of any rhymes or mnemonics to make the rule more memorable?
