It has been an action-packed week in Class 2! In Maths, we launched our new multiplication unit by mastering skip-counting in 2s, 3s, 5s, and 10s. Our English lessons were equally exciting; after publishing our fantastic "Big Write" about Katie in London, we began our new unit, ‘Paddington’s Guide to London.’ The children had a wonderful time acting out Paddington’s arrival at the station, using their five senses to imagine the sights and sounds of the city. This London theme continued into Geography, where we planned our very own trips to the capital and picked out our favorite landmarks to visit. Year 2 children had a fantastic outdoor learning session, embracing their inner wild side as we further explored the fascinating world of Predators and Prey. The energy was high, but what truly stood out was the incredible communication and kindness the children showed. Whether they were stuck on a tricky clue or trying to find their animal counterparts, they jumped in to help one another without hesitation. It was a joy to see their teamwork in action.
What we learned: We started our session by mastering some new vocabulary. The children are now experts at identifying:
- Producers: The plants that make their own food from the sunlight.
- Consumers: The hungry animals/insects that eat plants or other animals.
- Predators and Prey: The hunters and the hunted.
Each child was given a riddle card, when solved this then led them to a particular picture. The next task was to find the other two parts of the food chain by using the hints in the riddles. Once the food chains were complete the children then used their acting skills to act out how their food chains work and show the transfer of energy, starting at the producer, to the consumer and then ending up at the predator. Some truly Oscar-worthy performances. In Science, we’ve been tracking the impressive growth of our beans and have started exploring the wonders of the four seasons. Finally, we stayed active in PE by perfecting our balancing skills on the equipment and showcasing our creativity in Dance through original routines based on our favourite themes. We are all looking forward to the weekend!
