What a busy and creative week it has been in our classroom! We have packed so much into the last five days, from geometry challenges to dancing ghosts and flipping pancakes. We kicked off the week on Monday by focusing on Mental Health Week. We had some really mature discussions about how we feel, and to express our thoughts, we got creative. We spent time drawing, wrote and performed our own songs titled ‘This is my place’, and created a giant piece of collaborative art using the chromebooks. It was a great way to start the week with our wellbeing in mind.
Tuesday was a day of huge variety. In Maths, we put our calculating caps on to learn all about the area of triangles. In English, we reached a big milestone by publishing our ‘Big Writes’. We have been working so hard on our stories based on the book ‘The Explorer’, and it felt amazing to finish them and see our final published pieces. The afternoon was full of energy during our dance lesson where we focused on ‘gesture’ and ‘canon’ movements. The best part was choreographing our moves to the Ghostbusters theme tune! We finished the day by recognising Safer Internet Day, learning specific tips on how to keep our personal information safe online. After school, some of us competed in a netball tournament against other trust schools! We worked as a team and had a great time!
We kept the Maths momentum going on Wednesday by moving on from triangles to learning about the area of parallelograms. It was satisfying to see how the shapes related to what we learned the day before. In English, we analysed and performed some of the ‘Wild Nature’ poems and dicussed the techniques and descriptive language that was used. In RE, we learnt all about ‘Gospel’. We discussed what the word means and why it is so important, and we designed some wonderful posters to show our understanding.
Thursday was a day for movement; in our gymnastics lesson, we became choreographers! We were given some stimulus music and worked in groups to devise our own dances. It took a lot of teamwork to sync our moves, but we loved performing our routines for the rest of the class. In English, we made our own poems about a location of our choice (artic, ocean, rainforest) using descriptive language and devices and to round up the day, some of us took part in pizza making with our PTA. Not only fun, but delicious too!
To finish off the week, we celebrated Pancake Day on Friday with a hilarious pancake flipping competition. It was tricky to get the technique right, but we had lots of laughs and got to eat them after! We also settled down for a French lesson where we recapped everything we’ve previously learnt about family and school vocabulary. It has been a fantastic week of learning and fun, and we are definitely ready for half term!
