It has been an incredibly busy and productive first week back for our Year 3 and 4 crew, filled with everything from measuring to creative artistic masterpieces. We started the week by looking closer to home in Geography, where the children have been carefully sketching road maps of our local village, King’s Bromley. It was wonderful to see them identifying familiar landmarks and navigating the twists and turns of our local area on paper. This sense of community pride continued as we put our artistic skills to the test for the Best Kept Village competition, creating some truly eye-catching work that celebrates exactly why our village is such a wonderful place to live.
In our Maths lessons, we jumped into our new topic on mass and capacity. The classroom was buzzing as the children got hands-on with scales and counting in intervals, measuring accurately in grams and kilograms. We’ve also been tackling the challenge of finding equivalent masses, which has really helped everyone get to grips with how these units of measurement relate to one another. Meanwhile, our English sessions have seen the arrival of our new class book, The Iron Man by Ted Hughes. After making some clever predictions about where this giant might have come from, the class used specific clues from the text to visualize and sketch the character. We have also been experimenting with figurative language, filling our books with punchy alliteration, vivid metaphors, and similes to bring the Iron Man to life.
Out on the field, we have started our new PE units on cricket and athletics. The children have been focusing on their fielding technique, specifically practicing the "long barrier" to stop the ball in its tracks and improving their aim to hit the stumps with precision. It is great to see their teamwork and sportsmanship developing already! To round off our busy week, we had some year-group-specific highlights. Our Year 3 artists spent time honing their observational skills by sketching leaves with incredible detail, focusing on texture and form. Year 4, on the other hand, had a slightly tastier afternoon during their outdoor learning session, where they got to sample some delicious hot chocolates in the fresh air. What a fantastic start to our new topics for everyone in Class 3!
