We have had an incredibly busy and productive week in Class 3, with the children showing great enthusiasm across all our subjects. In Maths, we officially began our new topic on time, starting with hands-on practice using mini clocks. We focused on mastering "past the hour" and "to the hour" before moving on to whiteboard quizzes and challenged each other to match written times to clock faces. By the end of the week, we transitioned into digital time, playing various games to reinforce the concept that the hour is always written first. To keep our mental maths sharp ahead of the half-term assessments, we have also been engaging in high-energy TT Rockstars battles and timing ourselves on worksheets to build up our speed and confidence.
In our English lessons, the classroom has been buzzing with creativity as we started writing our own narratives inspired by the classic story, The Iron Man. The children have been challenged to weave a variety of literary features into their work, including similes, expanded noun phrases, prepositions, and dialogue. It has been a pleasure to read their opening sections; most of the class have already written superb introductions that describe the setting with fantastic detail and atmosphere. We are all looking forward to seeing how these tales unfold!
Our foundation subjects have been just as active and varied. In Science, we explored the mechanics of the human body by learning about the vital role of muscles. We even built our own anatomical models to demonstrate exactly how bicep and tricep muscles function as a pair to create movement. In RE, we spent time learning about the significant features of an Islam prayer space, while our PE sessions focused on sharpening our fielding skills—specifically practicing short, accurate passes to get the ball back to the bowler as quickly as possible. Finally, we added some flair to the week in French, where the children worked hard to perfect their pronunciation for the names of different animals. It has been a fantastic week of growth and discovery!
