What a whirlwind of a week we have had at school! From the "squelch" of mud to the quiet of meditation, the children have been incredibly busy exploring new concepts and showing off their creative talents across Key Stage 1. We kicked off our week in Maths by diving into the world of fractions. We have been learning that a "whole" can be broken into equal parts, starting with halves and just beginning to touch upon quarters. The children are getting very good at spotting that for a fraction to be fair, the parts must be exactly the same size—there are no "big halves" in our classrooms! This focused energy continued into our English lessons, where the children completed their Big Writes. It was wonderful to see them working so hard to hit their individual targets, whether that was perfecting their punctuation or using adventurous new vocabulary. In RE, we took a moment to find some calm by practising meditation. We discussed why finding a quiet space for reflection is so important to Sikhs and how it helps people feel peaceful and connected. Our History lessons took a more regal turn as we learnt about the life of Queen Elizabeth II. Year 2 did a fantastic job trying to piece together the Royal Family tree, helping them understand how the monarchy has grown and changed over the generations. Meanwhile, Year 1 had a brilliant (and very messy!) time during outdoor learning. We donned our gardening gloves to keep our hands safe before mixing together a squelchy combination of compost, clay, seeds, and water to create seed bombs. Once we had rolled them into small, round balls, we set them aside to dry ready for our next lesson. To finish off, the children drew beautiful pictures of the bright flowers they expect to see and talked about the busy bees and butterflies that will soon be visiting our garden. We are keeping our fingers crossed that the sun carries on shining for our long weekend! We hope you all have a relaxing break and we look forward to seeing the children back for more adventures next week.
