This week was our formal assessment week across the school, and I could not be prouder of how the children approached it. Tests can sometimes feel a little daunting, but every single child showed incredible resilience, focus, and determination. They used this week as an opportunity to shine and show us exactly what they can do. A special shout-out must go to our wonderful Year 1 children, who completed their official Phonics Screening Check this week. They took it all in their stride, decoded like absolute pros, and tackled those tricky "alien words" with big smiles on their faces. Well done, Year 1! While our mornings were focused on assessments, our afternoons were packed with fantastic, hands-on learning across the curriculum. In PE, we took a break from our usual sports to learn how to play boccia (a precision ball sport, similar to bocce, related to bowls). This was a wonderful opportunity for the children to develop their fine motor skills and tactics. More importantly, it sparked a brilliant conversation about inclusivity. The children learned to appreciate the challenges faced by those who aren't as physically able as they are, and it was beautiful to see their empathy and sportsmanship shine through. We continued our journey into the colder parts of the world this week. The children investigated what life is really like for people and animals living in polar climates. We looked at everything from how people dress to stay warm, to the types of houses they live in. Ask your children tonight if they can tell you an interesting fact about living in the freezing cold! In Religious Education, our focus turned to Christian traditions as we learnt about what happens during a Christian baptism. We explored the symbols used during the service, such as the holy water in the font, the sign of the cross, and the lighting of the baptismal candle. The children asked some incredibly thoughtful questions. After such an intense week of hard work, the children have truly earned a much-needed rest this weekend. They will need their energy because we are kicking off next week with a bang! Don't forget that on Monday morning, we are heading off on our school trip to the zoo! Thank you, as always, for your continued support at home. Have a wonderful, relaxing weekend!
