We have had an incredibly busy and exciting week in Class 3, kicking things off with a journey back in time to Ancient Egypt! We delved into our history topic by exploring exactly why the River Nile was the absolute lifeblood of the civilisation. To bring this to life, we looked at a hands-on model of the river flooding, which helped everyone see first-hand how the rising waters made the surrounding land damp and perfectly fertile for farming in a desert landscape. We also turned into historians, carefully examining ancient Egyptian paintings that showed just how much the people relied on the river for travelling on boats.
Sticking with our historical theme, our English lessons introduced us to a fantastic new book called the Egyptian Cinderella. The class had some brilliant discussions as we compared the unique culture, setting, and details of this story to the traditional fairy tale of Cinderella that we all know so well. It was wonderful to see the children using their analytical skills to spot the clever similarities and differences between the characters' lives.
In Maths, we have been confidently tackling some very big numbers. We continued our place value topic by working on partitioning numbers all the way up to 10,000 into thousands, hundreds, tens, and ones. Once everyone had mastered the standard methods, the class really challenged themselves with flexible partitioning, breaking numbers apart in unusual and creative ways to demonstrate their growing number sense.
Collaboration and determination were also huge themes for us across our other subjects. In Computing, our Year 4s stepped up as fantastic role models, delivering a brilliant masterclass to help the Year 3s learn how to navigate Times Tables Rock Stars. The older children were incredibly patient, and the Year 3s are now fully equipped to start earning their rock status! Finally, out on the field in PE, the energy was high as we held our official trials for next week’s cross-country tournament. Everyone gave it their absolute all, showing incredible stamina and sportsmanship to cheer each other across the finish line. We are so proud of Class 3 and hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
