Welcome to this week's update for Class 4. It has been a wonderfully productive and engaging week in Year 5/6, with the pupils demonstrating commendable dedication, enthusiasm, and maturity across all areas of the curriculum.
In English, the children participated in a collaborative 'slow write' activity, carefully selecting varied linguistic features to build suspense effectively within a narrative. Building upon this foundation, pupils have now begun planning their own suspense stories inspired by *The Shadow Cage*. Their imaginative ideas and rich vocabulary choices have been remarkable to observe.
In Mathematics, Class 4 successfully concluded their unit on place value by comparing and ordering negative numbers accurately. We then commenced our new unit on addition and subtraction. The pupils investigated efficient mental calculation strategies before applying their knowledge to formal column addition. Throughout these lessons, the children demonstrated great perseverance and showed respect for one another by offering encouragement during challenging problem-solving tasks.
In Science, the pupils conducted a hands-on filtering experiment to separate different materials successfully. Following their practical work, they drew detailed and accurately labelled diagrams to explain the process of evaporation. Their scientific enquiry skills and analytical thinking were on full display.
During our PSHE session, Class 4 explored the theme of identity and discussed the qualities that make each individual unique. This lesson linked closely to our core school values of love and respect, as pupils listened attentively to their peers and showed genuine appreciation for the diverse strengths within our classroom community.
In Computing, our focus was on online safety and understanding the concept of managing one's online reputation. Pupils researched the public profile of climate activist Greta Thunberg before creating and delivering informative presentations to their classmates. The children demonstrated excellent digital literacy and a strong understanding of responsible online behaviour.
In French, the children focused on expanding their descriptive vocabulary by constructing full sentences to describe hair and eye colour. It was fantastic to hear the pupils practising their pronunciation with confidence and precision.
During PE, the pupils developed key handball techniques through structured throwing and catching drills inspired by dodgeball, alongside focused target shooting exercises. The children displayed outstanding sportsmanship, embodying our school value of **friendship** by encouraging and supporting their teammates throughout every activity.
