We have enjoyed a remarkably productive and inspiring week in Class 4. The pupils have demonstrated impressive dedication to their learning, applying high levels of focus, collaboration, and critical thinking across all areas of the curriculum.
English
In English, the children have progressed significantly with their non-chronological reports based on their chosen cities. Building upon their initial research and planning, the pupils constructed informative, well-structured paragraphs. They focused on drafting concise introductions written in an appropriate formal tone, incorporating accurate technical vocabulary to engage and inform the reader effectively.
Mathematics
This week marked the beginning of our new topic on fractions. The pupils participated in practical investigations to explore 'fractions in disguise', using concrete manipulatives to build and create their own mathematical examples. They went on to explore equivalent fractions and successfully applied their knowledge of highest common factors to simplify fractions accurately.
Science
In Science, we launched our new unit on forces by investigating the pioneering work of Sir Isaac Newton. The children gained hands-on experience using newton metres to measure push, pull, and lift forces, recording their findings systematically in data tables. Following their practical measurements, pupils evaluated their results and formulated scientific statements to explain why specific movements required greater force, considering the effects of gravity, friction, and air resistance.
Computing
In Computing, the pupils explored physical computing using Micro:bits. Working with the MakeCode software platform, the children successfully programmed their devices to function as digital dice and to trigger sound effects whenever the Micro:bits were shaken.
Religious Education
During Religious Education, the children engaged in hexagonal thinking tasks. This approach enabled them to link abstract concepts together and make meaningful thematic connections, demonstrating a deepened understanding of our unit exploring whether God is loving and holy.
Living Our School Values
Throughout the week, Class 4 has embodied our core school values in all aspects of daily school life:
-
Love: The pupils have shown a genuine love of learning by embracing new challenges with enthusiasm—whether mastering complex mathematical concepts or learning block-based coding. In Religious Education, they also reflected thoughtfully on the concept of divine love.
-
Respect: The children demonstrated utmost respect for one another during collaborative tasks, listening attentively to peer contributions during RE discussions and treating scientific equipment with care during practical investigations.
-
Friendship: Working in pairs during Science and Computing required exceptional teamwork. The pupils demonstrated true friendship by encouraging their partners, sharing resources fairly, and working together to solve problems.
Oracy Question of the Week
To support learning at home, we encourage you to discuss the following question with your child:
"If you were to design a new sport or playground game, how would forces such as gravity, friction, and air resistance affect how it is played, and how could you measure those forces using a newton metre?"
Thank you for your continued support and partnership. We wish you all a restful and enjoyable weekend.
Warm regards,
The Class 4 Team
